About NL=US

NL=US Art is a private gallery and art consulting service that is dedicated to the promotion of emerging and established artists and the advancement of the visual arts in general. Other than the gallery, our services include private and corporate art advisory and the professional support for our visual artists. The agency is committed to enhancing the visibility and appreciation of contemporary art.

The gallery represents a number of contemporary artists from different disciplines within the visual arts. At the moment we represent Hans van Bentem, Ruth Borgenicht, Margriet van Breevoort, Lizan Freijsen, Carel van Hees, Esther Jiskoot, Arnout Killian, Miriam Kruishoop, Michael Mapes, Leslie Nagel, Pim Palsgraaf and Alexandra Roozen. The gallery also works extensively with the artists Peter George d’Angelino Tap, Yisu Kim,Andre Kruysen, Han Goan Lim,  Maurice Thomassen, Hans Withoos and with applied artists Bas van Beek, Rolf.fr and Mischa van der Wekke.

The main focus of NL=US Art is to establish a platform for these artists in a global environment. Not only do we handle the marketing and promotion of their work in shows or art fairs, we will also act as their business manager liaison to galleries, collectors, corporate institutions and critics alike. We are able to provide guidance and information to all who are interested in acquiring artwork from these artists.

Every artist exhibits their personality through their work in a unique way. Our goal is to make their artwork accessible to the most discerning and receptive audience possible.

About Piet van Wijngaarden
Art director NL=US Art gallery, Rotterdam

Piet van Wijngaarden has been working with NL=US since 2012 as an art consultant and is the co-director of the NL=US gallery in Rotterdam since the opening in 2014, where several team members support him. Before this, Van Wijngaarden was a gallery owner in Amsterdam for twenty years.

Together with Clemente Brakel he is assembling a heterogeneous group of artists, all working in different disciplines and with different themes. In January 2017, the NL=US gallery expanded and moved to a wonderful place in which the most diverse works of art can come into one’s own. The gallery is gradually showing it’s own face.

NL=US Art joined forces with several other curators and art consultants.

Each year NL=US Art asks independent curators to organize an exhibition in the gallery. In 2016 Anton Hoeksema was the curator of the show FOR DISTINGUÉ LOVERS. In 2017 Piet de Jonge will be the curator. Piet de Jonge studied art history and philosophy. He worked as chief curator at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the Kröller Müller Museum. Since 2015 he has been director of CHARLOIS SPECIAL, a biennial art festival in Rotterdam Zuid. This year, he is responsible for the Route du Nord exhibition in Rotterdam.

Gemma van Bekkum and Olivier Scheffer create exhibitions by combining elements from different disciplines. Their fascination is with the interfaces and boundaries between art and design and sharing this with the public by exhibitions and Artist Talks. Gemma was a co-founder and curator of Ampelhaus from 2012-2016. Gemma and Oliver are involved in the organization of the Aanschouw, a small display case in ‘de Schouw’ café. Every week a new artist exhibits a work in this display case. The co-operation with NL=US is self-evident; in 2013 they jointly organized the pop-up gallery ‘De Boze Wolf’.

In the USA, NL=US has teamed up with Frances Harris, HarrisArt Advisors Inc., in New York. Frances Harris has been an art advisor to corporate and private clients with respect to buying artworks and the acquisition of art collections, for over 30 years.  She has served as a board member of several art/cultural institutions and foundations in Philadelphia and New York. With our combined experience and expertise of the art market in the U.S. as well as Europe, we hope to better serve and broaden our client base both jointly and separately.
